Searching Your Immigration File

Using Canada’s Access to Information Act and Privacy Act, we can order a search of your Immigration file for you at any time. The search usually takes 30 to 60 days, and can include all applications that you have ever made at any Canada Immigration office in the world to visit, work, study, or immigrate. Besides examining your past applications, we can also review documents that Canada Immigration kept on file, and, most importantly, all notes that any immigration officer has made into your permanent computer records.

Sometimes this can yield very interesting information about why your case was refused; what the immigration officer was concerned about; notes of things that you or family members said to an immigration officer; or even things sent to an immigration officer by unknown informants!

In many cases, the information on your permanent immigration record may be distorted, or completely wrong. And though you may never know about it, this could affect how an Immigration officer assesses any later applications.

At Lowe & Company, we regularly assist our clients to search their immigration files, for a number of reasons:

  • To review any records if you have had any problems or refusals from Canada Immigration in the past;
  • To see what is causing a delay in your immigration processing;
  • To prepare you for your immigration interview, and know what concerns the immigration officer may have; and
  • To review the notes that the immigration officer made during or after your interview, to see what concerns he or she may have had.

Once we have done the search, we will review the results with you, and see if there is anything that needs to be done, or any action needed to correct your record.
